After co-owning TPAC for 6 years, Miss Jess opened a 2nd studio in her hometown of Belfast, now known as Belfast Academy of Dance (BAD). With a mission to share her love for dance with the community, she has consistently delivered exceptional dance education to students of all ages. Understanding the importance of providing opportunities for all, Miss Jess established a scholarship fund, ensuring that financial constraints would not hinder anyone's passion for dance. In 2019. she launched a competition team to help students who aspire to elevate their dancing skills to new heights. This season, Miss Jess welcomed her daughter, Mariah, (Miss Riri,) into the studio as an instructor, stating, "the best decision I've ever made as a studio owner." Miss Riri, an original member of the TPAC competition team and a Mt. Blue High School graduate, is an inspiring teacher who grew up immersed in the world of dance. While pursuing her degree in political science, she continues to nurture her dance passion by taking classes and attending conventions regularly. She jumped at the opportunity to teach at BAD, teaching all styles with a passion and love for ballet and jazz!
The mom and daughter duo, embody the spirit of dedication and passion for dance. When not attending events for their own competition team at Belfast Academy of Dance, they both work for a prestigious competition company putting on amazing events for dancers across the US. They are committed to continuous improvement; prioritizing ongoing education by attending numerous teacher conferences and classes to hone their skills and remain at the forefront of dance education.
Their return to the welcoming Belfast community has been met with open arms, and they take immense pride in being back "home" in Belfast, where they can share their love for dance and contribute to the local cultural tapestry. "It's truly an honor to teach here in my hometown. I am humbled and amazed so often with the curiosity and enthusiasm of my students. Each day, they bring fresh perspectives and unique insights that inspire me to be a better educator. Watching them grow and develop their skills is incredibly rewarding. It reminds me of the importance of fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment, where everyone feels encouraged to explore and express their ideas. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to their journeys and to be a part of their education," Miss Jess stated.
